Patricia is the daughter of Ernest V. and Henrietta Ryall. Ernest V. Ryall was the County Agent in Kenosha, WI for ~31 years. A UW graduate, he oversaw the transformation of Kenosha County's agriculture to a truck farming economy. He was a former president of the National Association of County Agents, wrote a column for the Kenosha News, and was a World War I Veteran with three purple hearts and the Silver Star. He married Henrietta L Achtenberg, who had published in 1922 a classic research study (still cited 100 years later) with UW limnology Prof. A Pearse) on the Feeding Habits of Lake Perch. They had 4 children.
