What is a corn crib?
Every farm in Somers had a corn crib.  What is a corn crib?  They are small structures, as shown in the Kramer photo above, that are used to dry and store feed corn for cattle, pigs and other farm animals.  After the fall harvest, corn was left on the cob and placed in the crib.  The corn crib was typically built with wooden slats and it was angled outward at the top.  The slats allowed the corn to dry which prevented mildew, mold, or decay.  The corn cribs had a roof and it usually was built elevated from the ground.
