Gottfred Doerflinger
Among the substantial citizens that Germany has furnished to Kenosha County is Gottfred Doerflinger, who was born in the fatherland, February 25, 1865. He was but four years of age when brought to the United States by his parents, Jacob and Katherine (Seite) Doerflinger, who, in the year 1869, sailed for America and on landing on the Atlantic coast resumed their journal across the country to Kenosha County. On reaching his destination the father purchased eighty acres of land at twenty-five dollars per acre and at once began to cultivate and improve the tract upon which he made his home until 1894, when he removed to Kenosha and purchased the residence that he occupied until he was called to the home beyond in 1909. His widow survived and passed away September 2, 1915. They were both loyal members of the German Lutheran Church, and in his political views Mr. Doerflinger was a Republican. To him and his wife were born six children: Kate, Ann, John, Gottfrred, Charles and Fred.
Brought to the new world when a young land, Gottfred Doerflinger obtained a common school education in Somers Township and has since been identified with the further cultivation and development of the old home farm. In early manhood he wed Mary Walker, a daughter of Fred and Rosie Walker. He father died in Germany, but her mother is still living and makes her home with Mrs. Doerflinger. In the family of Mr. and Mrs. Doerflinger are three children: Hattie, who married Emil Lindner and has three children; Erma Eleanore and Emil, both at home.
