Obituaries with a Somers Connection

These obituaries represent a record of the genealogy of Somers residents, many from early settlement to the 1980's.  Listed on many are survivor names that link one family to another, employment, schools attended, church of record, and clubs.  Most important are listings of community involvement whether it be a teacher, blacksmith, serve on a road commission, town board, school board, and other clubs.

On a humorous note, it appears after reading all of the obituaries while typing this list, many people who have lived a long time in Somers are related to one another.  There are too many obits to scan, however; I have listed names in alphabetical order and made brief notes (complete obituary information was not copied) to assist people who are researching their Somers ancestors.

Where did I obtain these obituaries?  Some are from our family bible, but residents of Somers gave me several scrapbooks that contained newspaper obituary clippings of people who had a connection with the Town/Village of Somers, Kenosha County, Wisconsin.  None of the obituaries identify the newspaper or date of publication, but both the Kenosha News and Racine Journal Times posted obituaries for Somers because the Town is located between Kenosha and Racine.  All obituaries are glued to scrapbook pages.

The original newspaper clippings and scrapbooks with this information will be donated (for the purpose of family research) to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Archives in Somers, Wisconsin.
